Ruler: Smart Precision Tool is engineered by ShankarBros. as an offline-first drafting and measurement instrument. We do not require accounts, we do not access personal files, and we do not track or store your measurements. All calibrations and calculations remain entirely inside your device.
1. Overview and Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how ShankarBros. ("we", "our", or "us") manages information in connection with the mobile application Ruler: Smart Precision Tool ("Ruler", "Application", or "Service") for Android devices.
We believe utility tools should respect your freedom and privacy. Ruler is purpose-built to operate entirely on-device without server reliance. By installing or utilizing the Application, you understand and agree to the policies set forth in this document.
2. Zero Personal Data Collection
We do not collect, process, harvest, or sell any personal data. Specifically:
- No User Accounts: You are never asked to register, sign in, or provide an email address, name, or phone number to use the tool.
- No Contact or Identity Information: Ruler cannot and does not read contacts, personal profiles, or social accounts.
- No Location Tracking: Ruler does not request, track, or log GPS, Wi-Fi, or cellular location coordinates.
- No Camera or Microphone Access: Ruler does not access your camera, microphone, photos, media library, or local file system.
- Local Calculations Only: All scale conversions (mm, cm, inches, fractional inches), line distances, 2D areas, and 360° protractor angles are calculated on-the-fly and never leave your phone.
🔒 Local Preferences
Screen calibrations, active theme options, unit selections (mm/cm/in), and bookmarks are stored only inside Android private SharedPreferences.
📐 Complete Isolation
No measurement logs or geometry figures are ever transferred or uploaded to ShankarBros. servers or third parties.
3. Hardware Sensors & Android Permissions
Ruler accesses specific hardware capabilities strictly to power its physical measuring and drafting tools:
⚖️ Accelerometer (Bubble Level)
Used solely in real-time to compute 2D pitch and roll tilt for the Spirit Bubble Level tool. Readings are processed in volatile memory and never retained or transmitted.
📳 Haptic Vibrator (VIBRATE)
Provides subtle tactile haptic pulses when calipers cross major tick boundaries or when a surface achieves a level 0° angle. Can be disabled anytime in Settings.
💳 Google Play Billing (BILLING)
Enables the optional lifetime Pro upgrade ($0.99) to unlock premium themes and eliminate ads. Managed securely by Google Play.
🌐 Internet Access (INTERNET)
Required exclusively for loading advertisements via Google AdMob and verifying Google Play in-app purchase receipts.
4. Third-Party Services & Advertising
To provide the Application free of charge, we partner with trusted industry platforms that may process anonymized technical telemetry:

You can reset or opt out of personalized ad tracking anytime on your Android device by visiting: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete Advertising ID or Reset Advertising ID.

When you purchase the one-time Pro Upgrade via Google Play, all Google AdMob ad requests and SDK loaders are immediately and permanently terminated. Your app operates completely ad-free forever.
In addition, Pro users can restore purchases at any time across multiple devices linked to the same Google Play account with a single tap in Settings.
6. Children's Privacy Protection
Ruler is a utility measurement application suitable for a general audience. We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area).
Because no personal identifiable data is ever requested or transmitted by Ruler, children can safely explore physical measurements, geometry, and angles without data risk. If a parent or guardian believes personal information was inadvertently received, please contact us immediately for immediate deletion.
7. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA)
Depending on your geographic residence, privacy frameworks such as the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grant specific consumer rights:
- Right to Know / Access: You have the right to request what data is collected. As stated, ShankarBros. collects zero personal data.
- Right to Erasure / Deletion: You can wipe all local application data, calibrations, and settings simply by clearing app storage via Android Settings → Apps → Ruler → Storage → Clear Data, or by uninstalling the app.
- Do Not Sell My Personal Information: We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data under any circumstances.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may periodically update this policy to reflect application enhancements, changes in statutory requirements, or Google Play Developer program updates. Any modifications will be posted to this page with an updated "Effective Date".
